Bike-to-Work Day

May is National Bike Month, and Friday May 21, is National Bike-to-Work Day.
Lots of our friends here in Lawrence are avid cyclists. We see plenty of our colleagues here at the Journal-World arrive by bike each day. We want to celebrate that and encourage a strong participation on May 21.
It seems like a great opportunity to use social media for some real world interaction. Get people together the morning of May 21, for a tweetup style event. Anyone would be welcome of course, social media user or not. But for those using social media, especially Twitter, we would encourage everyone to share the experience online. Promote the event to friends, encourage participation, and on the morning to post updates and photos and help live blog events via Twitter. We'll come up with a hashtag of course and aggregate all the content on LJworld.com.
We'd pick a location in the Downtown area and invite people to gather together at around 8:00 am. We'd provide coffee and donuts and then send everyone on their way to work. Would be great to see a group of cyclists heading down Mass Street!
Tell us what you think. If you're a cyclist would you be interested in participating. Would 8:00 am work? And what about location? South Park, or somewhere more central Downtown.
We'd be grateful for your feedback. Then we can get something set up and start letting people know. Let's make it a great Bike-to-Work day!

8:00 a.m. seems a bit late if people have to get to work.

We could get going by 7:30 am for sure and stay until say 9:00 am for those who might be headed to work a bit later.

I usually get to work around 8, so I think 7:30 would work better.
