Who’s accessing your Twitter account?

As the world of social media continues to expand, so too does the Twittersphere. Every day another third-party application is being created to help enhance our Twitter experiences. Just as our team often does, you have probably given some of these services access to your personal or business account on Twitter. It’s a trade-off we often don’t pause to think twice about, because we want more from Twitter than the all-to-simplistic functions offered by Twitter.com.

However, as time goes on, many of these third-party applications and services are of no use but they still maintain access to your Twitter account. While the likelihood of bad things happening are minimal, it’s still a great idea to manage these connections so that you know who has access to your account. Remember, it’s your name on the account, therefore you should maintain control at all times (especially when it is so easy to do).

First, log into your Twitter account, and then paste this URL into your browser (or just click the link): http://www.twitter.com/account/connections. You will then see a page that looks very similar to this:

Now, review all of the applications that have access to your account. If you are currently using an application, let it be. If you are no longer using an application, click the “Revoke Access” link.

It’s very simple to do and doesn’t take much time, but by doing this you will limit the number of people who have access to your account and be able to better manage your account. So, for now… Happy tweeting tweeps.
