March 18th Early Morning Law Enforcement & Fire/Medical wrap up

After a busy Saturday morning, things quieted down a little bit this morning in Douglas County.

Law Enforcement throughout Douglas County conducted more than 10 vehicle stops after 2 a.m.. Douglas County Deputies reported a DUI arrest near mile marker 13 on K-10 shortly before 2:45 a.m., Kansas Highway Patrol Troopers also made a DUI arrest just off of the Turnpike, in the 100 block of McDonald Drive around 3 a.m..

Police in Lawrence responded on five disturbances, three were reported to be domestic. One of the disturbances reportedly involved a male who was armed with a gun. From scanner traffic it did not sound as though the man with the gun was threatening anyone, only that he had informed Emergency Dispatchers that he did have access to a gun.

At 3:18 a.m., Johnson County Deputies reported a white pickup truck westbound on K-10 in excess of 100 miles per hour. Johnson County Deputies advised that their only charges were traffic related for speeding and they discontinued pursuing the vehicle as it crossed into Douglas County. Deputies on the Douglas County side checked for the vehicle but they were not able to locate a truck matching the description.

Shortly after 4 a.m., KUPD and LDCFM responded on a smoke alarm sounding on the third floor at Jayhawker Towers. Crews arrived to find nothing visible from the outside of the building. Upon further investigation KUPD reported “cigar smoke likely source for alarm in third-floor corridor.” LDCFM confirmed that smoke had cleared and there was not a fire. Once the alarms reset, all crews returned to service from the scene.

At 5 a.m., Westar Energy requested two LPD units to assist them with traffic control while they made some repairs in the area of 14th and Iowa.

No serious injuries were reported with any of this mornings activity.
