April 2nd Early Morning Law Enforcement & Fire/Medical wrap up

Another morning with significant news in Douglas County. One person was killed this morning in a car vs train accident just north of Lawrence.

The accident occurred around 3:20 a.m., just to the west of Tee Pee Junction or the intersection of U.S. Highway 24-40 and U.S. Highway 24-59. A northbound coal train struck a vehicle killing the driver, who was determined to be the vehicle’s only occupant. Emergency Dispatchers reported that the train’s engineer saw the vehicle and that it was occupied just before the train struck it. The driver has been identified as 40-year-old, Aimee Ziegler. Back in Lawrence, the majority of this morning was pretty quiet. Officers conducted a few vehicle stops and responded on one medial emergency.
