The night started early with a fairly unusual call, even for a college “town.” Just after 10:30 p.m. Fire crews were called to the 2200 block of Ridge Court on a report of a structure fire. Units responded and quickly arrived on scene where they reported that there was no smoke or flames visible from the outside of the building. Upon further investigation, firefighters determined that there was not a fire and the burning odor was the result of a resident attempting to dry towels in a microwave.

After that the night and early morning hours consisted of mostly suspicious vehicle/pedestrian checks, building checks and several traffic stops.

Lawrence Police also responded on several burglar alarms, that all ended up being false alarms. May have been related to the wind. Always seems to be a few more alarms when the wind is blowing.

If you will be out and about in Lawrence this morning, the traffic lights at Kasold Drive and Clinton Parkway will be turned off from 9 a.m. until noon. Part of the Kasold Drive reconstruction project. Lawrence Journal World Story
