December 23rd Early Morning Law Enforcement & Fire/Medical wrap up

The morning started off fairly calm in Douglas County. Police in Lawrence conducted a number of vehicle stops. Officers also made at least one DUI arrest in Lawrence and another in Lecompton.

Shortly before 4 a.m., Lawrence Police, County Deputies and LDCFM responded to the intersection of Peterson Road and Folks Road, in west Lawrence, on reports of an injury accident. Law Enforcement found a vehicle crashed near the intersection with one occupant inside. The driver was extricated from the vehicle by LDCFM, injuries were reported to be critical. A LifeStar Helicopter responded to the northwest corner of W 6th Street & Folks Road and transported the patient to a Topeka area hospital. More on this story can be found here from the Lawrence Journal-World.

No other serious injuries were reported with any of this morning's activity.

The activity blogged here is only a sampling of some of the things that Douglas County Law Enforcement and Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical respond on. The problem with this accident was speed, not the road. You can not make that turn at 90mph, even in a 100 thousand dollar vehicle. You will do as this car did, leave the road, cut through two trees and be very lucky to be alive. Most people who use this "cut through" do so well above the posted speed limit, endangering both themselves and those who live in our neighborhood.
