Poll shows Sebelius ahead of both Moran, Tiahrt for Senate seat

All the current talk about Gov. Kathleen Sebelius’ future has centered on if President Barack Obama will appoint her as the next secretary of Health and Human Services. But could her prospects for becoming the first Democrat to win a U.S. Senate seat from Kansas in several decades play into the decision?A recent Research 2000 Kansas poll for the Daily Kos blog had Sebelius leading two of her potential Republican opponents, current Kansas House members Jerry Moran and Todd Tiahrt. The poll, conducted Feb. 2 through Feb. 4 with likely voters in the state, gave Sebelius a 47 percent to 37 percent lead over Tiahrt. Her margin was 48 percent to 36 percent over Moran. In the same poll about a Tiahrt-Moran GOP primary, Tiahrt led 24 percent to 19 percent, but more than half of respondents were undecided. The results in this race starkly differ from a Moran camp poll floated two weeks ago that showed him with a double-digit lead over Tiahrt.
