National Bible week runs Nov. 18-25.[(Topeka Capital-Journal) Ryun steps up to political starting line:][1] Jim Ryun welcomed volunteers back to the political fray Wednesday as he officially opened a campaign office for his bid to regain the state's 2nd Congressional District seat. Ryun, a Republican who lives in Lawrence, had held the seat for 10 years until being defeated last fall by Democrat Nancy Boyda. In March, he said that he had decided to challenge Boyda in the 2008 election. Dozens of volunteers were busy Wednesday afternoon stuffing envelopes with fundraising letters at Ryun's campaign office at 701 S.W. Jackson.[(Manhattan Mercury) House approves $142.7 million in spending on post projects:][2] The U.S. House approved Tuesday a military spending bill containing $255 million in new funding for expansion projects at Fort Riley and Fort Leavenworth. Under the bill, Fort Riley will get about of $142.7 million for improvements associated with the Grow The Force initiative. Fort Riley is slated to eventually be home to about 18,000 soldiers and their families. Fort Leavenworth will get about $102.4 million. ... Leavenworth's haul includes: $67.8 million for barracks; $23 million for unit operations facilities; and an $11.6 million earmark for a new chapel complex. Second District Rep. Nancy Boyda added both earmarks to the bill.Sen.
