Brownback endorses McCain
Here are today's headlines from the Kansas congressional delegation:Sen. Sam Brownback (R) ![][1][(AP) Brownback to Endorse McCain:][2] Sam Brownback, a Kansas conservative and favorite of evangelical Christians, will endorse his former Republican presidential rival John McCain, GOP officials said Wednesday. The nod could provide a much-needed boost, particularly in Iowa, for the Arizona senator and one-time presumed GOP front-runner whose bid faltered and is now looking for a comeback. Republican officials said Brownback will announce his support for McCain later Wednesday in Dubuque, Iowa, and then travel with the candidate to campaign in two other cities in the state. The officials spoke on the condition of anonymity to avoid publicly pre-empting the announcement. It's uncertain how much weight the Brownback's backing will carry; the Kansas senator dropped out of the race last month with little money and little support. While he is a favorite of religious conservatives, he failed to persuade them to embrace him as the GOP's consensus conservative candidate. Nancy Boyda (D) ![][4][(Human Events commentary) SAVE Act Enforces Immigration Laws:][5] The Secure America with Verification and Enforcement (SAVE) Act targets employers with stiff penalties for hiring illegal aliens, secures the northern and southern border by adding 8,000 new border patrol agents and increases interior enforcement by allowing for additional federal district court judges and providing more resources for law enforcement officers. (At a press conference,) Rep. Nancy Boyda (D-Kan.) told the story of friends whose only daughter was killed by an illegal alien in a drunk driving accident. That immigrant still resides in America and was charged with only a misdemeanor.
