Roberts not a fan of Senate's longer work week
Here are today's headlines from the Kansas congressional delegation:Sen. Pat Roberts (R)![][1][(Politico.com) Lawmakers Revolt Against Long Hours:][2] Even before Democratic leaders have made good on promises to harness lawmakers five days a week, cross-party opposition is growing, with senators ready to revolt and House members simmering over the new schedule. ... There's a broadening bipartisan "uprising" to ditch the longer workweek among both lawmakers and staff, especially in the Senate, said a top Democratic Senate aide. "It's a grind," said Sen. Jim Webb, D-Va., who enjoys one of the easiest commutes to the Capitol from his home in Northern Virginia. "It's a lot more stringent than people originally thought it would be." A visibly annoyed Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kan., agreed: "I just told (Reid) I won't be back by 4:30" for the vote Monday, "even though I'm catching a 1:55 flight."Etc.[(AP) Boeing Aircraft Work in Budget:][3] President Bush's latest budget plan includes money for maintenance and upgrades on the Air Force's fleet of so-called "doomsday planes" at Boeing Co.'s Integrated Defense System plant in Wichita, Kan. The Bush administration had sought to retire the four E-4B aircraft a year ago, but Kansas lawmakers pressed officials to keep the fleet for national security reasons. Work on the aircraft supports hundreds of jobs in the Wichita area. "I am elated by the news," Rep. Todd Tiahrt, R-Kan., said Tuesday. "I am pleased the Pentagon listened to our arguments for the continuation of the program." Tiahrt, along with Kansas Republican Sens. Pat Roberts and Sam Brownback, urged Pentagon officials not to retire the planes, arguing that millions of dollars to modernize two of the aircraft had already been spent. Geez Roberts, You mean, you have to work a 5-day week for only $100,000-plus a year or however many months your in session. Wow, buddy, I feel for you. That probably comes out to almost a full 40 hour work week. Must be killing you. Maybe you should hang it up and find something that better suits your schedule and stamina rather than represent your constituents.

Man, that dude is a master of politics. first he licks the President's boots until they are a shiney gestapo black, then gives him carte blanche to send Marines into a harm's way for no gain, then bypasses the opportunity to head the ag committee so he can continue in his rock star position as Intel chairman for one more congress, then gets kicked from said committee for utter incompetence, now he doesn't want to work a full week like everybody else in America.
I would understand his pissant behavior if he made weekly visits to his state like some senators. But Roberts prefers to stay in DC most of the time.

If he doesn't like the job AND the hours, he should step down. No one will care on this side of KS.

Oh my, what is that I hear? I think it is an itty-bitty violin...
I'll tell ya what, Roberts, I'll take the job. Certainly beats the hours AND pay I've got going now. I agree with other posters, if you don't like the job, you're free to find a new one.

When his term is up, vote him out! Get someone in there who would like to work for the exorbitant salary and benefits, instead of whining about normal work hours.

"I just told (Reid) I won't be back by 4:30" for the vote Monday, "even though I'm catching a 1:55 flight."
Huh. Then why don't you catch the 8:30 flight, Spanky?
With brains like these running the war...
