Roberts leaves Intelligence and Armed Services committees; joins Finance and Ethics

![][1]We imagine AP will send a story soon. Until then, here's excerpts from Sen. Pat Roberts' press release making it official - he's off the Intelligence Committee, and moving to the Finance Committee. He is also leaving the Senate Armed Services Committee.WASHINGTON, DC U.S. Senator Pat Roberts today won a key committee assignment on the powerful Senate Finance Committee, which has jurisdiction on a wide-range of legislation from tax and trade to health care, Medicare and Social Security, issues impacting all Kansas families. Roberts joins the Finance Committee after four years of service as Chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee. "It has been my honor to work for the nation on efforts to improve our intelligence gathering capabilities, better enabling us to prevent terrorism at home and abroad," Roberts said. "But with the opportunity to bring a Kansas voice to the Finance Committee, I believe the time is right to make this move.""These committee assignments will allow me to work on the issues that are important to the daily lives and pocketbooks of all Kansans," Senator Roberts said. "I am especially honored to reclaim Senator Bob Dole's seat on the Senate Finance Committee for the people of Kansas."Senator Roberts will continue to play a key role in agriculture as a senior member of the Senate Agriculture Committee. He will also continue service on the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee and the Senate Ethics Committee. "With one in four jobs in Kansas dependent on international trade, the Finance Committee, with responsibility for all trade agreements, is an important assignment for Kansas," Roberts said. "In 2005, the state exported $6.7 billion in total products. This position will allow me to be more directly involved in World Trade Organization issues related to agriculture, aircraft, manufacturing and bilateral free trade agreements, and it will allow me to more forcefully push for a resumption of beef exports with many of our trade partners."__Senator Roberts will also serve the Senate and people of Kansas as a member of the Senate Ethics Committee. "As public servants, it is our duty to adhere to the highest level of ethics and conduct possible. I look forward to continuing my service on this committee that ensures members of the Senate and their staffs act according to the rules of the Senate." Senator Roberts is a former Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Ethics. _At this time, due to internal limits on committee assignments within the Senate, Roberts will also step off of the Senate Armed Services Committee. _We'll return tomorrow with reaction. This is one of the most sought after committee assignments in the Senate. It speaks very highly of Roberts for him to have been selected. With him on Finance, I'm sure he will be able to bring a lot more money into our state just as Dole did when he served on this committee.

Is Robert running for Senate in 2008? With his age, and losing power that he once had, it may not be a sure thing.

This positive news is a sure fire sign that Roberts is running and running hard.

Wait, I thought Republicans were against government pork? Oh, that's right, only for OTHER PEOPLE, just like your bizarre 'morality' arguments.

You folks actually think Roberts wanted the Finance Committee slot, that he's a political pro? The guy is far from a political pro. He opted not to be Chairman of the Ag Committee last go around because he was so in love with the idea of being cock of the walk Intelligence Chairman. The White House and Republican party changed Senate rules to allow him to continue as Intelligence Chairman during the 109th. Tell me, what would help the "'daily lives and pocketbooks' of his constituents" more than being Ag Chairman? He's coming up for re-election in 2008 and is complicit in poor oversight that has led to the deaths of many of his beloved Marines. He was a tool of the White House, and certainly not his own man. Heck, he's not even from Dodge City, his "home town." The guy is a stooge who got to be senator because of connections his grandpappy and corrupt father created. He has a picture of him with Castro in his office, according to my cousin who visited the office with a school group years ago.

I digress. The Republicans knew he could not handle a Democrat-controlled Intelligence Committee, so they removed Roberts. This is a step down for him. A major step down.

And he is throwing support to McCain this early into the race? McCain is crazier than a s-house rat. You want that self-aggrandizing fool to your next president? Wow.

So you cousin visited Senator Robert's office a few years back and in the ten seconds that he/she was allowed to(most Senator's won't let you see their office)peek in he/she memorized the layout. Wow your cousin should work for the CIA. The Finance committee assignment is a wonderful opportunity for Kansans and based on Sen. Robert's previous performance I'm sure he will help not only our state economy but the nations.
