That Dennis Moore-Kris Kobach race is getting pretty heated.[The Kansas City Star][1] today reports on the latest round of charges and counter-charges between the two rivals for the 3rd District congressional seat currently held by Moore, a Democrat."Republican challenger Kris Kobach attacked full bore Sunday, calling U.S. Rep. Dennis Moore 'utterly out of touch' with Kansas morals, 'utterly ineffective' and, at one point, 'utterly ignorant.'"Moore, the Democratic incumbent in Kansas' 3rd Congressional District, accused Kobach of spinning half-truths, adding that Kobach wants to drive up the federal deficit by spending billions of dollars while cutting or eliminating every tax."The exchange took place during a debate at Johnson County Community College. It airs at 8 p.m. tonight on KCPT.On a related note, [AP correspondent John Hanna][2] takes a look at the race, suggesting that Kobach is trying to win by rousing his conservative base instead of courting moderates."'Demographics are destiny for Dennis Moore,' Kobach said in a recent interview. 'Eventually, he will not be able to hold this seat. I intend to make that happen.' "Kobach argues that Moore is more vulnerable this year than in the past because of a surge in registered GOP voters in Johnson County, which anchors the district. "Although Kobach said he's not ignoring moderates, some of them don't think he's courting them aggressively either. They point to Kobach's raising immigration policy issues, including attacking Moore for not supporting the use of National Guard troops along U.S. borders." Help for small business U.S. Sens.
