Sam Brownback wants to crack down on porn. The U.S. Senator from Kansas held a hearing on porn addiction Thursday in his role as chairman of the Commerce subcommittee on science, [the Associated Press reports.][1]"Internet pornography is corrupting children and hooking adults into an addiction that threatens their jobs and families, a panel of anti-porn advocates told a hearing organized Thursday by Senator Sam Brownback, chairman of the Commerce subcommittee on science. "Brownback, a Republican from Kansas and an outspoken Christian conservative who has championed efforts to curb indecency on television and the Internet, said the public is beginning to realize 'they don't just have to take it.' "But he acknowledged the First Amendment right to free speech has limited congressional efforts."One other Sam Brownback link today: [GOP seeks suspension of RU-48.][2]Home schooling U.S. Rep. Jim Ryun's family is at the center of evangelical Christian efforts to remake the Republican Party - and the nation - along faith-based lines. His son, Ned is director of [Generation Joshua,][3] a grass-roots organization that's tapping the power of the homeschooling movement for political purposes.Today the [Miami Herald][4] carries a story about the Home School Legal Defense Assn., of which Generation Joshua is an affiliate."Founded in 1983 as a legal-aid society for home-schooling parents, HSLDA has become much more. It has taken on the appearance of a political party in its own right, with an evangelical Christian mission to shape the American culture and change the face of government, the news media and international affairs. "While many Americans know little or nothing about home schooling and HSLDA, the resources of this new army of northern Virginia played an important role in the moral-values campaign that ushered George W. Bush into a second term and elected conservative Republicans to Congress."And the Ryuns, the Herald says, are a big part of that effort: "The director of Generation Joshua is Ned Ryun, a former Bush speechwriter. Ned and his brother Drew, director of grass-roots development for the Republican National Committee, are the home-schooled sons of Olympic track medalist Jim Ryun, now a Republican congressman from Kansas."How to contact As always, you can find information to contact members of the Kansas congressional delegation [here.][5] [1]: http://msnbc.msn.com/id/6525520/ [2]: http://washingtontimes.com/national/20041117-113118-4593r.htm [3]: http://blogs.ljworld.com/kansas_congress/2004/sep/15/family/ [4]: http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/living/education/10221547.htm [5]: http://ljworld.com/extra/where_to_write.html#fed
