Taking a closer look at the U.S. News college rankings

Let’s dig a little deeper into the U.S. News and World Report college rankings that came out today.¢¢¢So, we know that Kansas University dropped a couple slots down to No. 40 in the public school rankings and No. 89 overall.New this year, however, was the high school counselor’s list. U.S. News surveyed a group of high school counselors who are involved with its “Best High Schools” rankings.Counselors ranked KU at No. 41 overall. In fact, KU tied in these rankings with Texas A&M and the University of Texas, which both beat KU in the main rankings.¢¢¢Texas really seems to have the market cornered when it comes to the rankings in the Big 12. The University of Texas, Baylor and Texas A&M were again the top-ranked Big 12 schools.So, where did the rest of them show up? The University of Colorado came in at No. 77. Iowa State and the University of Nebraska tied KU at No. 89 overall. The University of Missouri came it at No. 96, the University of Oklahoma at No. 108 and Kansas State crept into the rankings at No. 130.Oklahoma State University and [Texas Tech][13] were both absent from this year’s rankings – as they were last year.
