Guiding Light, the grand dame of soap operas, was canceled today at age 72. Yes, even if you’ve been loved by generations, survived World War II and successfully made the leap from radio to TV to YouTube, it is still possible to be a goner.

Now, I’m more of a General Hospital girl, but I will am saddened that one of history’s longest-running shows will air its final episode on Sept. 18.
