Creepy mask, gray getaway car used by suspects in recent armed robberies, police say

Looking for the public’s help in identifying suspects in two recent armed robberies, Lawrence police released some related photos and tidbits of information about them Wednesday on social media.

One: At least one of the two male suspects wore a “purge mask,” police said. They shared a picture of the smiling, slender-eyebrowed mask in a Tweet.

Two: The suspects drove a car, a photo of which also was shared by police, that appeared to be a gray Nissan.

The Journal-World previously reported that the two Feb. 20 robberies took place about 10:45 p.m. in the 2000 block of West Sixth Street and about 11:10 p.m. in the 3100 block of Ousdahl Road. Two masked men reportedly entered apartments and used a handgun to take personal property from victims.

Police said at the time that they believed the robberies were related to each other and to drug activity.
