Letter: Art process

Owning a business and being an artist on East 9th Street, I can't agree more with Richard Heckler's above letter. The "trickle-down" approach to this project, imposing a non-compromising " if we build it, they will come" developers' dream is incredibly off-putting to the beautiful east Lawrence neighborhood.
Please slow down and watch the "Arts District" realistically bloom into its own entity from within. External, superimposed ideas feel opportunistic and insulting at this point in the process.

Traffic stuck on Iowa Street

I particularly enjoyed the final moment of the video, when the signage on the semi read: "Extra Cheese"! LOL

Time out: Kansan Chely Wright becomes first openly gay country star

No offense to Ms. Wright, but is she not aware of k d lang? Did I miss a reference somewhere? If I did, I apologize... I'm certainly not making light of Chely's situation, but there have been others in this place previously, birthplace not withstanding.

Daughter of 1970 acting mayor remembers the year well

LHS was certainly a flashpoint in that year as well. The socio-political climate was trying for many of us who enjoyed our associations with African-American friends.
I remember being on the fringe of areas being tear-gassed twice. I remember huge fights in the parking lot, hearing commotion in the hallway outside the music room and seeing hordes of my classmates racing outside to either join or watch the ensuing fray.
I remember my friend Vanessa Collins. Strong, confident, and a commanding presence far beyond her teenage years. Vanessa stood for her rights firmly, yet offered a warm and inviting smile when it was appropriate. I miss her.

School district cuts bus routes that served more than 1,000 students

If the bus is driving beyond the 2.5 mile perimeter to pick up riders, how is that saving $$ by not picking up riders within the perimeter?
