Free State boys bowling places 6th at state meet
Free State’s boys bowling team took home a sixth-place finish at the 6A state bowling meet Friday afternoon at Northrock Lanes in Wichita.
The Firebirds scored 2825 as a team, while Campus won the event with a 3084. Joey Taylor led Free State with a series score of 566, which was good enough for 10th place. Porter Neidow (530) and Ryan Flakus (529) finished 21st and 22nd, respectively.
For Lawrence, Jayden Cress was one of two individuals to qualify for the state meet. He posted the highest finish, notching 19th place with a series score of 539. He missed out on qualifying for state by two pins last year during his freshman season.
On the girls side, four city individuals competed in the final meet of the weekend. Lawrence senior Ashley Dykes led the city competitors with a series score of 464, which was good enough for 37th place. Free State senior Lexie Lockwood ended up 40th with a 459 series score.
