We recently saw at least 20 dead fish and a dead duck on the west side of the Clinton Lake dam. What is happening at the lake?

Clinton Lake State Park manager Jerry Schecher said seeing dead fish is a natural and common occurrence during the winter at the lake. He said some fish die because of the icy conditions covering the lake or they will get in areas where the oxygen levels are low. He said fish also can die sometimes if they come through the drainage structure below the spillway.

The dead duck, Schecher said, could have been wounded by a hunter and died in the lake or of natural causes. He said it's hard to tell the cause of death with just one duck.
