Well, the game started an hour after the speech so it wasn't really an option.

He's still got the teleprompter skills down pat.

Flap Doodle 3 years, 3 months ago

Yeah, because image is what really counts, isn't it?

ivalueamerica 3 years, 3 months ago

any idea how clueless you make yourself appear? First you decide to make issue about the use of teleprompter as though it is significant, then it is reflected right back at you that your guy also used a teleprompter, then suddenly you make it insignificant.

You are the exact perfect example of a person with absolutely no morals or values of any quality, only sides. If your guy does it, it is good, if the other guy, it is bad...no matter what.

You are the example of what is failing in the USA right now.

Nice, never miss an opportunity to bash Palin. His speech was terribly partisan and too little too late but lets just bash Sarah. Nice work.

jonas_opines 3 years, 3 months ago

I think that it's safe to say that nobody is interested in changing their minds at this point.

Hey Pres. Obama is the ring leader of the "circus" the is cangress and, to quote Bush, "a hard job".

RoeDapple 3 years, 3 months ago

Dang. Missed it. Musta been . . . washing the cat. Yeah, that's it. Thursday was Tommy the Basement Cat's annual bath.

ralphralph 3 years, 3 months ago

I was gonna post some nasty comment, then real "washing the cat", and the urge passed. Perhaps you could take Tommy to D.C., and ... ... ... never mind.

Right after the President's job speech, ABC news broke into breaking news alert about terror alert! Ironic that no rebuttal was needed LOL!

Fossick 3 years, 3 months ago

I think the poll would be better designed if instead of answering yes/no, the pollstee* got to fill in the blank where the work 'encouraged' now sits, as in:

"I was ____ about U.S. job growth following President Obama's speech Thursday night.

  • the victim of a pollster.

rockchalker52 3 years, 3 months ago

Well, as of this post it's 400 votes & 2 to 1 against. We must be in Kansas.

There's a lotta Rock Chalkin' goin' on in Kansas. It's all good 'til you get to 1977, then it turns into mouthy, less than helpful, one-upsmanship. It's very annoying. Finger pointing & insults are easy. Solutions take intelligent discourse & cooperation.

To paraphrase the Prez, we didn't send congress to D.C. for a d*ck measuring contest. The obstructionist bastids need to get to work & pull their head...

Son of a largeBiatch, I'm gettin' all worked up on this. That's what happens when you wish you'd paid closer attention when choosing a username to this here award winning site. T'aint no fun taking grief for rc1977. What a maroon. I wish he'd stuff it until he has something constructive to say.

Hypocritical of me? You betcha. I don't have much in the way of solutions other than to point out we ain't gonna find any with all this hatred.

I'm going to the game tomorrow, so Rock Chalk!

Pass the bill? A bill that doesn't exist to be financed with money that doesn't exist. Can we please find some people to run this country that understand what reality is? Can we find some people to run this country who have held a real job at some point? We are now led by a group of professional know nothings, that have done nothing, and don't understand how to do anything other than play this silly game called politics.

Jonathan Fox 3 years, 3 months ago

If grassroot campaign could possibly be successful we'd see working class americans turning this country around. Unfortunately, we have presidents and politicians with the most money winning elections and leading us down the toilet.

camper 3 years, 3 months ago

Hoots, I agree with a lot of what you say. The problem is, austerity and defecit reduction does not create jobs. Employer hiring and consumer demand/confidence is not related to budgetary problems. In fact, austerity will lead to more job losses as government attempts to trim its payroll.

A jobs bill and/or stimulus can help, but only in a temporary fashion. Our manufacturing base and corporate willingness to outsource jobs and make money overseas makes me believe that stimulus will not stick. By that, I mean the temporary relief of the jobs bill will not translate to increased consumer demand/confidence once the stimulus funds run dry. I believe this is what we are seeing from the 1st one.

Problem is, inaction might just be even worse. Unemployment could increase a couple points higher thus even less tax revenues for the government to assist. Austerity is a paradox, because it will lead to less revenues and greater defecits....unless we cut more. And cutting more will repeat the cycle unless we can solve underlying problems.

I believe President Obama is a good leader. Unfortunately, if anyone had the magical answer to solve our problems, this answer must have an equal amount of political will and to a lesser degree, public support. Seeing what we now do, this is not going to happen any-time soon. The debt ceiling crisis makes it painfully obvious that there are other forces at work that are preventing us from taking the right courses of action.

Katara 3 years, 3 months ago

I tend to agree with what you are saying, particularly about inaction. Sitting back and waiting isn't going to create jobs and decreasing spending will just cause more to be lost. It is a vicious cycle.

Maybe he should just give every man, woman and child in the United States a million dollars. That would be cheaper and more effective at stimulating the economy than his current plan. I assume the money would come from the money tree that he grows in the White House yard... or maybe he could follow some rainbows and steal pots of gold from leprechauns. Glad to see all that debt crisis stuff was just made up by the media - not sure why anyone was worried about it, when President Obama clearly doesn't care: or maybe he just has a really really short memory.

It is the responsibility of the government to create new industry and new jobs!

Why?

Because the New World Order Global Economy is all about sending the lucrative USA jobs abroad then backing that idiotic position with a tax break that supports keeping profits of former USA corporations out of the country. Wreckanomics = dumb economics.

If the government is shipping jobs abroad through providing BS Free Trade Agreements then government must reciprocate with new industry for new jobs to establish new new wealth for the USA.

Jobs also went abroad by way of hostile takeovers, mergers and leveraged buyouts during Reagan/Bush = very risky and reckless financing by the big banks. These "buyouts" were quite expensive and resulted in layoffs by the millions.

The government has played a major role in USA job losses. That is anti american.

Then again so are these government actions that killed millions of jobs, retirement plans and medical insurance coverage:

  1. TABOR is Coming by Grover Norquist and Koch Bros sells out state governments, public schools,SRS services etc etc to private industry = Grab Your Wallets!

http://www.dollarsandsense.org/archives/2005/0705rebne.html

  1. The Reagan/Bush Savings and under Bush/Cheney sent the economy out the window costing taxpayers many many $$ Loan Heist(Cost taxpayers $1.4 trillion), millions of jobs.loss of retirement plans and loss of medical insurance. http://rationalrevolution0.tripod.com/war/bush_family_and_the_s.htm

  2. Wall Street Bank Fraud on Consumers $ trillions, millions of jobs, loss of retirement plans and loss of medical insurance. http://www.dollarsandsense.org/archives/2009/0709macewan.html

  3. ONLY 3 financial institutions instead of several were at risk so why $700 billion in bail out money? One of the biggest lies perpetrated to Amercan citizens http://www.democracynow.org/2009/9/10/good_billions_after_bad_one_year

Introduced tax cuts which do nothing to make an economy strong or produce jobs. Tax cuts are a tax increase to others in order to make up the loss in revenue = duped again.

  1. Still A Bad Idea – Bush Tax Cuts - The ENTITLEMENT program for the wealthy at the expense of the middle class = duped one more time. http://www.dollarsandsense.org/archives/2001/0301miller.html

In the end big debt and super duper bailouts were the results which does not seem to bother Republicans, as long as they are in power.

It is NOT the job of the government to either create or provide jobs for people. It is not the job of the government to take money from producers/workers and hand it over to freeloaders who do nothing to earn it, and in many cases (illegal invaders who mooch) it is downright insane that our government allows this to occur.

You blame everything on Bush/Cheney. Well it is the entitlements that are handed out to the poor and the rich that is the problem. Both parties are to blame. Liberals like you are too close-minded to see this, and just look to blame Bush/Cheney. The entitlement programs for the poor who don't even try, and especially those who are here illegally, is just as bad as any corporate entitlement. In fact, it is much worse, because at least the coroporate side provides jobs and money to the system. The moochers are just born, raised, and die depending on the rest of us to share the wealth and allow them to hang out and do nothing productive all day other than get their nails done, watch TV, and hang out on the step of their apartment and chat with other moochers.

Richard Heckler 3 years, 3 months ago

Is your job safe? White collar jobs are going abroad as we speak. Legal, financial, graphic design etc etc etc = very few jobs are safe. Don't you just love the USA foreign policy.

Charlie Bannister 3 years, 3 months ago

Independent rebel you are spot on. There is not going to be any improvement in anything unless and until January 2013 when the new man takes over and we get a good Senate not led by Harry Reid. This government has gotten so far away from what government ought to be that it will take lots of courage and testicular fortitude to get it fixed. There are entitlements that need fixed or eliminated (especially public employee pension systems). They are truly amazing in what they pay out. I have a relative who is a Federal retiree and I was aghast at what taxpayers are going to have to pay her until she takes her last breath. She retired at 56. And all the regulations being put on business by the EPA. What a worthless branch of government. Dept of Education. Dept of Energy. Two more worthless branches. Time to fix it all.
