Last year's thunderstorm was a blast, but it pretty much ruined the event for vendors. Can't say there was a great turnout anyway. It would be nice if more folks showed up this year -- It is a really nice and EASY to get to gathering, low-key and free of crowds & frenzy. A really comfortable family event. C'mon, people!

Our cul-de-sac used to have a big fireworks display for years until the City pulled the plug. I enjoyed shooting them off. That was half the fun. Watching the City's works is just not the same. Have not gone and never will.

I've been to the City fireworks display twice and I can attest they are the lamist display ever I have seen. Pathetic!!! That tells how much our Politicians think of how we should celebrate the birth of this Nation. Heck Perry is a smaller town then ours and yet their displays is awesome. It got so big they stopped advertising for it and/or set them off on a different day to avoid the huge crowds. Still!!

opps so the answer to your question NO I don't go to see the fireworks in Lawrence anymore.

Yes, we will go. Bummed about the rain last year, but still enjoyed the fireworks. Most people on this forum wouldn't go anyway. They would have to get away from their computers and be around a crowd of people, and probably can't afford a data plan for their phones. It would be just too much trouble for them.

Watch it on the levee, built in free parking.

I love the ban on fire works in town. I love my country but not the tradition of fireworks. I think it is safer, I know it is quieter and the animals really suffered from the noise.

Quite often the fingers are separated from the tube (and the hand), and need no further prying.

We tend to go for just one gigantic bang that you can hear clear across town. Police have a hard time figuring out where it came from that way. Hmm, out of cannon balls, think I can use golf balls that have been floating down the river? Gots lots of them. Didn't leave any fingerprints on them did you Roe?

I don't grudge people loving their fireworks. I hope they blow em up as safe as possible. I also hope they live in the country or have friends who will let them shoot legal. I just don't like the noise, the smell and what it does to the animals. I don't care if you love it. Each to their own, unless it exceeds polite intrusion into my home and land. I am just glad it is illegal in Lawrence. I did have a neighbor who lost their garage to the fool that lived behind her. So if you can't be considerate of others, at least attend to safety guidelines. Be careful and enjoy the 4th.
