You should have the option of: Only if he resigns as governor to run.

Also, there is a typo in the description of the poll. Like should be likely.

I agree. Anything to get him out of Kansas early. Theocracy anyone?

Perry and Brownback prayed this weekend in a very visable manner for god to get involved in fixing what is wrong with America. Monday, god responded by letting the stock market crash. Could there be a clearer sign that god doesn't want Perry or Brownback in office?

I wouldn't vote for either of them if they paid me a million bucks to. Though I have to agree with Autie, so maybe they should go for it.

Really wanted the "heck no way" option in this poll except a bit harsher than heck.

grammaddy 3 years, 6 months ago

Hillary has to run first. It's my understanding that she's retiring from public office at the end of 2012. Doesn't sound to me like she's at all interested. She has more class than to challenege her boss.

Wowzer, stand back haters and think about your complaining. How far is this nation drifting? People are harassing somebody for being religious.

Hope I'm not around to see it, but you folks may someday get whatever the heck you want.

Learn history.

When a nation moves to a dictatorship, the trendy malcontents usually end up in shallow mass graves.

TikiLee 3 years, 6 months ago

I don't see anyone harassing anyone for being religious. What I see are people decrying hypocrisy.

Religious people of all walks of life help their fellow man, as directed by any number of Holy Books. Religious people of all walks of life are humble, as directed by any number of Holy Books.

"Religious" people like Govs. Brownback and Perry use their "faith" to bludgeon their fellow man, and call it helping. They stand on the mountaintop and shout their "piety" for all to see, and say it's modest.

THAT is what people are calling out.

Scott Morgan 3 years, 6 months ago

TikiLee, perhaps Brownback and people like me see entitlements as evil.

Not for people who really need the boost, but healthy Americans of generational institutional poverty. I get headaches and have 4 children so I can't work? My leg hurts, I am scared, I am being trained for the 24th time in a job training situation while I keep my welfare.

Generational poverty so engrained one can predict the failure of a 15 year old just by looking at them in a social setting. A system of welfare so evil people some never understand why life is so unfair. A system so evil, many trapped will never ever know the pride of laying on a coat of paint on a wall they own.

A system so evil, success is getting a better Section 8 apartment. Momma, can we ever get a nice new car? No, we can only own a vehicle under 3000.00, the state says so. Why momma? Success defined by the system finally giving up and letting them live out their life on the dole.

It makes me sick, I do mean ill, seeing a mom and gaggle of kids she can't afford punching out food stamp cards. Those kids know, they understand being part of a lower class.

Our welfare system doesn't work. The only people who prosper are the thieves realizing big money is in administration and getting as far away from actually working with people.

Tiki, ever notice how many of the few who escape our welfare system are rural and give much thanks to the church?

Kendall Simmons 3 years, 6 months ago

Wow! What a bunch of mean-spirited assumptions.

Pastor_Bedtime 3 years, 6 months ago

We're not merely "hating" or "complaining" about the fact that Brownback has religion. It's the fact that he wants to dictate his beliefs on others. Did you know that the Texas prayer meeting "...was financed by the American Family Association, a Tupelo, Miss.-based group that opposes abortion and gay rights and believes that the First Amendment freedom of religion applies only to Christians. "

Here we have an extremist group attempting to create a religious "dictatorship" (to use your terms), focused on bullying and silencing the nonbeliever.

Scott Morgan 3 years, 6 months ago

How is Brownback being Evangelical?

I see a heck of a lot more of "do as I say" from the other side of the fence. For example a first lady who wants to look in my refrigerator. Or worse, have the IRS and National Medical Association look in my fridge.

Kendall Simmons 3 years, 6 months ago

She doesn't want anyone but YOU to look in your refrigerator... and then to determine for yourself and your kids/grandkids if what you have in your refrigerator is likely to lead to obesity in your kids/grandkids.

Wow. What a horrible request for her to make...asking you to think about the health and longevity of your loved ones and then to actually consider doing something easy about it. OMG! The nerve of that woman!!

Oh. Wait a minute. Aren't you the same person who just wrote a long post judging other people? What's that you're saying about "do as I say"???

slshogrin 3 years, 6 months ago

One thing you have to look at is we have a governor now that is imposing his religious beliefs on the state and tax payers. He has an obligation to the state to honor the Constitution and why this country was founded in the first place-freedom of religion. There's also that "pesky" separation of church and state. I don't care what religion he is, or that he goes to church and prays, but to impose those religious beliefs or pass legislation that imposes those beliefs on the tax payers not only goes against Constitutional Law but is also abuse of power.

somedude20 3 years, 6 months ago

Brownback is a despicable human being who hides behind religion as he screws over the meek, poor, old, young, ect and I would not spit on him if he were on fire (I am not a Christian so I don't have to pretend to care like Sam pretends) The world would be a much better place without Brownback..bugger off Sam!!!!!!!!

I don't think either is qualified to be president of my neighborhood association, much less the United States.

LogicMan 3 years, 6 months ago

You must be kidding about Perry. Have you looked at his resume? The longest serving governor of one of the biggest states, and all sorts of other good things.

I think you meant that a community organizer might be qualified to serve on your neighborhood association. But definitely not President of the USA, as experience has shown. Hindsight is 20-20.

SilenceDogood 3 years, 6 months ago

Nope, not kidding about Perry. Though he may be slightly more qualified than Brownback he is, nontheless, a bigoted rich guy who has a long track record of working to enhance the lives of other bigoted rich guys at the expense of everyone else.

And the community organizer we have elected as president has done a fine job of cleaning up the mess the last bigoted rich guy left for the nation. His only fault is that he has spent far too much time trying to work with the extremist faction of the Republican party.

I think there ARE Republicans out there who would make good presidents of the United States. But I stand by my comments about Brownback and Perry being unqualified as both are far too extremist in their beliefs and actions for that position (or any position of public service, for that matter).

just_another_bozo_on_this_bus 3 years, 6 months ago

Eagle Scout.

Served in the Military.

Glenn Reed 3 years, 6 months ago

Fred Phelps is an eagle scout. I think he's famous for holding signs in front of funerals. Sometimes the funeral is for a soldier.

And here's a list of eagle scout criminals... http://listserv.tcu.edu/cgi-bin/wa.exe?A2=ind0708&L=SCOUTS-L&P=2269

Serving in the military is a good thing. I can't help but wonder, how long might it take to find ex-military folks who do bad things? It wasn't that hard to find eagle scouts I don't like...

SilenceDogood 3 years, 6 months ago

The man is 61 years old. I find it odd that you chose to list two accomplishments that happened before his 28th birthday.

Perry is an interesting man. He was once a Democrat but seems to be moving further right as he gets older. There are glimmers of hope in his record -- his 2007 decision to strongly support HPV vaccine for all young women in his state, for example. Unfortunately that seems to be an exception in an otherwise far right sea.

LogicMan 3 years, 6 months ago

A list of two were requested, and given. Go to various websites, including wikipedia for many more.

You can tell a lot about people from their experiences in their formative years. Character matters.

One thing about him I haven't seen yet is that he's obviously of partial or mostly Hispanic roots. All Texan though. But he likely would qualify as our first Hispanic president.

verity 3 years, 6 months ago

He is "obviously of partial or mostly Hispanic roots."?

grammaddy 3 years, 6 months ago

Get off the "community organizer "bs. Is there anyone more qualified than a Constitutional Law Professor?

Perry will be our next President, either in 2012 or 2016. Brownback would not be a wise choice for Perry. He needs a senator from a big purple state to balance the ticket. Like who?

Ken Lassman 3 years, 6 months ago

More likely: Perry will ask Brownback if he can annex Kansas. Imhofe will make sure that Oklahoma will go with, and --voila! The creation of Texahomasass secedes from the USA. Drought capital of the world! Ruled by the Sky God! Oil, Beef, hot dry winds! Football, baseball and basketball the secular trinity!

But this is only the beginning. Prayer groups in the high plains state will be take over the Strategic Air Command in Nebraska, the airbases in the Dakotas will fall nex taking over the lion's share of the US nuclear arsenal, punching on up into Canada where the tar sands refineries will fuel the war machine that will divide east from west--America that is. The high plains empire/theocracy will exact passage tolls for anything passing from coast to coast, and come to dominate sympathetic South, hence securing the Gulf of Mexico as safe passage to the rest of the world.
Yahweh be blessed!

Brownback cannot be all that bad if all the Lawrence loonies get their panties in a bunch over him.

That being said... the Republicans need a moderate, and if not that, a conservative who isn't an ignorant whack-job (i.e. Palin, Bachmann). The only Republican who can beat Obama is unfortunately not running... Chris Christie.

usnsnp 3 years, 6 months ago

Perry/Brownback for 2012. The reason Perry wants to run for president is he needs to leave Texas before his house of cards fold up. If you think Texas is such a good place to live and get a job, move their and good luck.

lhsalum 3 years, 6 months ago

USNSNP Texas is a great place to live and get a job. Texas's job market is huge (8th best state to get a job in), and on top of that not state taxes.

beatrice 3 years, 6 months ago

The very high property taxes paid in Texas make up for the no state taxes. Eventually, Texas, like the nation, will have to face its massive debt. With a deficit of $27 billion, it is indeed a house of cards.

just_another_bozo_on_this_bus 3 years, 6 months ago

They'd both be good primary candidates, given that the Republican Party is not the party of Neanderthals. But in the general election, it depends on how pissed off voters are with Obama come 2012. They might win by default.

Scott Morgan 3 years, 6 months ago

bozo, great logic, I mean it. People of all walks are getting angrier, and somebody will be blamed.

Realistically, Texas can almost be run by anybody and succeed. I used almost, because I used to think this of California.

I used to think due to a perfect storm, both California and Texas would always prosper. Population, education, harbors, transportation, natural resources, tourism.........on and on. The politicians have actually ruined California.

blindrabbit 3 years, 6 months ago

Just_another: Neither of the two (Perry or Smilin Sam) believe in Neanderthals; as they existed about 10,000-100,000 years ago, and as both are fundamentalists, they know the earth and human life was created about 5,000 years ago.. A trip to the Creation Museum in Kentucky will straighten this out; there you can see humans walking with T-Rex. Incidentally both candidates have the mental aptitude and acumen to deal with the likes of dinosaurs.

jayhawkologist 3 years, 6 months ago

Seems like a perfect move, since GSB is using this so pathetic its laughable job as guvnah a way to springboard to a run for presidency. GRP needs to pick him...whatever it takes to get the worst governor in the history of our state out of office.

Scott Morgan 3 years, 6 months ago

Oh my! Have any of you haters noticed how many states are hurting to the point of cutting what we call basic services. State Police, medical care, prison populations, and education.

Kansas is solvent. Kansas is in relatively good shape. We should be proud, yet a few folks are angry we don't make it easier to obtain welfare. A few folks angry our governor practices his religion.

I know I'm proud of what our little population state accomplished in this awful awful economy.

My belief is you're angry at our leader who is going to make Jimmy Carter look like Lincoln in comparison of presidents after he's given the heave ho.

LogicMan 3 years, 6 months ago

Perry is following the time tested means of getting elected President -- pander to the extreme (left or right, depending on which party) to win the primaries, then move to the center for the general election. Like Obama did extremely well for 2008. Perry is just securing his base for 2012, the Religious Right.

jayhawklawrence 3 years, 6 months ago

I believe most of the people that follow the so-called moral and fiscally conservatives politicians actually believe that the Democrats are evil. They give the Republicans a free pass on any issues regarding their attacks on social safety nets like Social Security or Medicare. They don't do enough research on other issues such as minimum wage or unemployment issurance, etc. They have no clue what corporate welfare is all about. Bottom line: Republicans are working for God. Democrats are evil.

I found this link which presents a biblical view of why we need to open up our minds a little bit and start to see more sides of the issues.

http://www.right-wing-pseudo-christians.com/jesus-democrat-republican.htm

If people did not open their minds and start to question the values of their peer group and their political leaders a little bit more we would not have made this country as great as it is today. We might even be ruled by a totalitarian regime. This country is meant to be ruled by free individuals, regardless of our wealth, our status, our race, education, age or anything other than our God given divine value as individual citizens.

We shouldn't give up those freedoms to people who have the money and power to believe they can do anything they want.

Speaking of soon-to-be-former presidents: "The extra costs related to Mrs. Obama’s solo trip [to Martha's Vineyard two hours earlier than Zippy] mainly include the flight on a specially designed military aircraft she took instead of Air Force One, as well as any extra staff and Secret Service that had to be enlisted to go with her. She would also have had her own motorcade from the airport to her vacation residence."

The digusting fact of the "speciall designed military aircraft" is sweetened by the funny fact that extra staff "HAD" to be enlisted. Something is up when the mainstream media is starting to convey just how loathsome these people are.

verity 3 years, 6 months ago

I've been doing some research on Rick Perry. He certainly speaks out of both sides of his mouth. On another thread somebody said they voted for Brownback because they didn't hear anything from Tom Holland---and now were sorry they had. Well, you can do your own research---not hard to do when you have the internet. There is no longer any excuse for ignorance about statewide and national candidates.

I'm predicting that if Perry is the R candidate for president, he won't choose Sam as partner. Even the Koch's money can't continue to prop Sam up. I don't think Sam realizes that when he becomes a liability they'll drop him like last night's prostitute.

jayhawklawrence 3 years, 6 months ago

I am a Christian but I am also a moderate. I believe in Science and have great faith in lifelong learning for self improvement. I believe that God is the greatest scientist, so science is for me an affirmation of my faith in a loving God.

I used to be a conservative Republican but no more.

I think electing the first black President was a much bigger accomplishment and challenge to the status quo than anyone ever realized and our country is going through a lot of reflection about how we want to continue as a nation and what is our responsibility to the sick, the poor, the elderly and all those who cannot take care of themselves.

Obama is dividing the country in an interesting way and Christians have to make a choice. At the same time, there is no way you cannot question the rhetoric of the Republican Party today that appears more and more selfish, radical and self serving as each day passes by.

In fact, by the time the second Bush left office, the national debt had grown to $12.1 trillion:

  • Over half of that amount had been created by Bush’s tax cuts for the very wealthy.
