Get it on referendum. F! D.Compton or Yes to free enterprise.

I'd like to see a roach-coach that hits workplaces at breakfast & lunch times. If they wanted to serve the drunks downtown at night, I'd be ok with that so long as I could get my artery clogging breakfast burrito at the plant when I arrived.

A small number of carts would add to the ambience of downtown. Oh, and be sure to allow them to charge a special-district tax.

If Compton really cared why did he allow Pyramid to move in 3 doors down from Papa K's?

Food carts and mobile food trucks should only be allowed if the develop a tax that puts them on the same playing field as the restaurants that are in buildings. The same services are needed whether or not you're in a building so they shouldn't get a free pass. Also, there needs to be a mechanism to make sure that these businesses pay their sales tax also. The issue isn't really taxes, its a level playing field.

In that case restaurants in buildings shouldn't have tables, chairs, toilets, sinks, etc....

Gotta make sure that playing field is level.

I think this would take away from the already struggling restaurants in this town. Taxes is what they need. Also is there going to be a limit, permits, or can anyone just show up with their food cart. Is the health department going to make sure the food is safe just like restaurants or are we going to turn our head again, in the name of convenience.

Carts downtown would make a killing Thursday-Saturday nights.

But he probably has plans in the works for Free State High School if they close the lunch hour.

Good to know that Encore approves it. They make the best calamari I've ever had! As a result, they never have to worry about me leaving them for a hot dog/hamburger cart :-)

In fact, to support the intelligence of Encore's owner(s), I believe I'll go have lunch there tomorrow!!

Love your pizza. Love Encore. Can't stomach Doug.

I'm for free enterprise as much as anyone, but some real issues with street vendors unless carefully regulated.

  1. Are vendors going to be honest about collecting sales tax.
  2. Are vendors at an advantage compared to property tax paying storefront owners.
  3. Sanitary conditions, are wash sinks available to vendors.
  4. Are restrooms available to vendors and patrons; as required in storefronts.
  5. Who is going to take care of trash generated by these operations.
  6. What determines when closure should be required due to weather conditions.
  7. What City and State licenses are required.
  8. Are foods prepared in sanitary conditions.
  9. What kind of liability insurance will be required.
