I don't spend a lot of time climbing my family tree anymore. I've gotten back far enough on some lines, and I've given up on the others. Whenever I'm sitting at the computer, though, and don't feel like getting up, I check a few sites to see if anyone's had a breakthrough on the shorter lines. Sometimes it's just fun to retrace my steps to be sure my research is valid. When I'm really bored, I look at my ex-wife's lines, since they're half of my childrens' tree.
I have over 225,000 names in my database. Became addicted to this hobby back in the early 1990s. One ironic twist...I have a great great grandfather who paricipated with Quantrill's Raiders ("Bloody Bill" Anderson's regiment0 who participated in the raid on Lawrence (he was killed shortly after in 1864). 100 years plus a few more, I graduated from KU! It is addictive in that everytime you have one question answered, at least 2 more pop up! A great way to learn and appreciate American and European history.
yeah, a little bit, but everything I came across I had to pay money for, and it wasnt guaranteed that it would be accurate, so I never really finished anything. I think my father has though.
I do know that I'm related to President Buchanan though. :-p
Yes I have a great deal, my 4th great grandfather is Col. Gabriel Madison, 2nd cousin to James Madison the 4th President. His brother was George Madison, 4th gov. of KY, both are Rev. War vets. His father was John Madison who came to Va, in 1640. On the other side of the tree my 3rd great grandfather came to Lawrence in 1883 by train.
Aliens on my dad's side of the family.
I've use many ljworld archives to do so. wish more years would be avail in google news archives.
According to family legend, my ancestors in the old country got together with the MacFarlands and engaged in the cattle business, mainly under the cover of darkness.
just did recently actually... i found out some cool things. first of all, i knew my maternal grandfather served in WW2. but in the search i found out that i also have ancestors who served in WW1, the civil war (in an ohio regiment), and the revolutionary war!
i also found out that i have no dutch lineage. what i thought was dutch turned out to be welsh. so i am english-welsh-irish-german-african-seminole-cherokee-blackfoot.
