Really 'julz'? I didn't realize that was at stake, I might just need to change my answer.

Do I wear my seatbelt, yes. Do I suggest everyone wear one, yes. Do I think that anyone should be given a ticket for it, heck NO! Why not give tickets for people that don't tie their shoes. Maybe we can start programs to ticket people that don't go to the gym or eat healthy?
I'd prefer to live in a city/state/country where I have a least a couple of freedoms. Even if those freedoms protect morons that don't wear seatbelts or idiots to picket organizations based on their religious beliefs.

I just don't want to get pulled over because it looks like my seatbelt isn't on. I always have it on and find it ridiculous that some people refuse to wear them, but I honestly don't think it will be enforced properly.

If it will get us a piece of the govt. pie then I say heck yes!

How about cars with airbags? Why should they be ticketed? This has nothing to do with safety and everything to do with a new source of revenue.
If you are really concerned about safety take a look at industrial accidents and death statistics.
How about school busses and the T?
Grammady, do you drive?

one of the initial constituent backers of this legislation lost a family member who did not wear a seatbelt - so it is about safety. it just also happens that it is worth money.

The federal funding comes out of our pockets anyway. What foolishness to think that we'll get free money. The legislature has repeatedly promised not to make the seat belt law a primary violation hence giving the police even more power to pull people over in frivolous DWB fishing trips, etc. This is just another attempt by the Republican legislature to stick its big nose into our lives. Just another assault on our freedoms. Every Senator who voted for this should be out of a job.

Three cheers for Sen. Chris Steineger for voting against this. Steineger is the clear choice for SOS.
