No better way to send a loud and clear message that Lawrence is NOT retirement friendly, NOR young family friendly (or those saving to buy a house, etc) than an intangibles tax. Bad, bad idea Boog.

Exactly, halsears. If this goes through, I'm changing my residence. I can't afford my CDs to be taxed like that, when they aren't a lot of other places. No way am I giving my retirement to the City of Lawrence for more Wal-marts and commuter-ghettos.

This is just another example of regressive taxation (on money you've already paid income tax on, no less!). Boog, get your act together, and you and the rest of the commissioners figure out a way to live on our means. Good heavens, every household has to budget money. Get your hand out of our wallets, and figure out a way to cut costs to pay for your new library! Sheesh!
