Letter to the editor: Football observations

To the editor:

Went to the Rutgers game Sept. 15. Not a big sports fan, but had a great time. A few observations:

The piped in music, not the band, is way too loud. People go to the game partly to be together and talk, right?

Second, the stadium looks fantastic, spiffy and new. Why again are they spending $50 million on it? Maybe they should just use the money to pay fans to fill the seats. Aside from the huge structure they’re building just west of the stadium, no doubt another sports worship facility, go 100 yards west and south of the stadium (the campus) — the sidewalks are crumbling; Potter Lake is stagnant and moss covered. The little bridge and picnic area are in sorry condition. The parking lots are sliding down the hill. Wonder what the rest of the campus’s infrastructure looks like?

Third, the security. My goodness, hadn’t been to a “big” event in a while. They were very polite and all, but I think honestly each fan had a personal representative from law enforcement. What a world we’ve created. I miss the ’50s and ’60s, before Vietnam started.
