Letter to the editor: Trump bashing

To the editor:

I’m increasingly unhappy with the low information in many of your op-eds. Most seem to be an exercise in deconstruction, derision and distortion about President Trump. Your op-ed columns rarely contain serious discussions of policy issues and their results. Snide insults, recycled ad nauseum, are repetitive, boring and unpersuasive. They reek of desperation. Flashing one’s “virtue” is a poor substitute for actual information and fresh thought. Why not discuss the threat to our country to subvert the outcome of an election and the possible silent coup d’état? What about our two-tiered system of law, our policy regarding Turkey, freedom of speech, etc.? I’m not asking for praise of our president’s energy, intelligence, adaptability, courage and positive results. But it would be nice to see more intelligent op-eds.

The situation reminds me of a joke about the president and the pope. It seems that Trump was hosting the pope on a yacht in the Mediterranean. They and their retinues were outside enjoying a light meal when suddenly a gust of wind blows the pope’s hat into the water. Everyone present is aghast. What to do? Trump, being a man of action, orders the ship stopped. He quickly steps off the back of the ship, walks across the water and retrieves the hat. All aboard are stunned and silent. Later, the headlines and CNN shout “Trump can’t swim.”

Insulting your subscribers is not a winning strategy. Think on this.
