Letter to the editor: A better reality

To the editor:

I have this fantasy. There’s a hearing, and a woman having suffered sexual assault pours out her heart and soul before a group of old white men and before the whole nation. After she concludes, one of the leading old white men takes the microphone, and he thunders: “This is the biggest sham I’ve heard in my whole career as an old white leading legislator! I thought that we lived in a country that is fair and just. But after hearing this courageous woman, what I now understand is that we, this nation, continue to think of and treat women as objects, and that women are assaulted all the time. And our system is so unfair, that these same women are even afraid to come out with their stories. And that, let me tell you, is a sham and a shame!” The whole room full of old white men was just struck silent. In shame.

That’s just a fantasy, of course.
