Letter to the editor: Unfair burden

To the editor:

Only in Lawrence would you find a City Commission that would pay $4.5 million for an unnecessary road to nowhere. Queens Road has already been funded with $1.5 million from the developers. Where is that money now? No credits have been given to the project? Queens Road is not a major artery or thoroughfare for any businesses or developments north or south of Sixth Street. Why would the City Commission force a few home owners to foot the bill for a road, roundabout, bike lanes, sewers and traffic lights on a major highway? I shake my head daily at the decision made by those who are suppose to represent their constituents. They want to unfairly tax a small number of taxpayers. When repairs, sewers and roundabouts were done on Wakarusa, Harvard and Inverness, did the homeowners living in that area pay for the repairs or were the cost spread across all taxpayers in the city?
