Letter to the editor: Self-government

To the editor:

Gun control has been and is, rightfully so, under intense discussion. Should the gun control laws be revised or simply better enforced? Certainly guns need to be removed from criminals, everybody should agree. But what is the definition of “criminal”? Is it anyone who promotes free speech?

Perhaps we should put a pause on discussion of gun control for a month and urge upon ourselves and others more self-control — in speech and in conduct. As one of our Founding Fathers said, our republic is designed for people who practice self-government.
