John H Woodbury

John Hettinger Woodbury, 83, died February 22, 2018, at Hoag Memorial Hospital in Newport Beach, California, from a massive heart attack he suffered on Feb 21st. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri, on April 11, 1934, the second son of Thomas Hicks and Evelyn Hettinger Woodbury.
John attended W C Bryant and Pembroke Country Day School, class of 1952, where he lettered in their four major sports. College began at the University of Arizona, where he joined social fraternity Sigma Chi, and then onto the University of Kansas where the Jayhawk became his life long love. While living in Tucson his Uncle Francis introduced John to the home construction business. John started building houses and apartments in Lawrence and even homes and chalets in Colorado. Moving to Southern California in 1976, John gravitated to custom woodworking: designing and building entertainment centers, kitchens, beams, paneling and many other specialty items using only the finest materials. He never wanted to retire and worked fulltime for Woodbury Construction Company, Costa Mesa, up to his last day on this earth.
John is survived by his three children, his brother Tom, two grandchildren, nieces and a nephew, many relatives and a host of close, dear friends. At John’s request, the Neptune Society provided for cremation and ashes into the Pacific Ocean.
