Eloise Melander Swaney

Mrs. Eloise Melander Swaney passed away Sunday, October 22, 2017, at Sunrise Assisted Living Memory Care in Westminster, CO, following recent medical complications due to dementia. She was 88. Ms. Swaney was born May 19,1929, in rural Tyro, KS, the daughter of Alfred J. and Rose B. Melander. She was raised on a farm near Tyro. She graduated from Caney Valley High School in 1947. She moved to Hutchinson KS in 1960 and to Lawrence KS in 1969. She relocated to Broomfield CO in 2013. Ms. Swaney was an accountant for the University Press of Kansas for over 20 years. For their 60th birthdays she and her twin sister Louise and their family rode the mule train to the Phantom Ranch at the bottom of the Grand Canyon to stay the night. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lawrence, Kansas, including time serving as the church Treasurer. Ms. Swaney married Ellsworth Dixon Swaney on March 25, 1950. He preceded her in passing on May 24, 2008. For their 50th wedding anniversary they dined at the Old Faithful Inn in Yellowstone National Park,WY. Survivors include her son Kurt and his wife Julia of Broomfield, Colorado; three grandchildren, Rachel, Erin and Andrew; and greatgrandson Charles; and her twin sister Louise B. Melander of Broomfield, Colorado. Ms. Swaney will be cremated and buried with her husband Dixon Swaney at the El Paso Cemetery in Derby KS at a future date to be determined.
