Funeral services for Jane Marie Wiggins, 71, Overbrook, KS, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 22, 2014 at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Lawrence, KS.
Jane Wiggins passed away on Sunday, August 17. 2014, at her sister’s home.
She was born March 6, 1943, in Lawrence, KS, the daughter of Elwood Arthur Wiggins and Dorothy Rose Pugh Wiggins.
She was a graduate of Lawrence High School in 1961 and earned a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology from the University of Kansas.
Jane Wiggins lived most of her life in Douglas County, KS and briefly in Hartford, CT. She worked at Hartford Stage Company in Hartford, CT, Center for Research at KU, Veteran’s Affairs Hospital in Topeka, Lawrence Paper Company and retired after 21 years with the United States Postal Service as a Mail Carrier in 2005.
Jane was a member of the Douglas County Genealogical Society. She enjoyed genealogy and did extensive research on her family history before it was computerized.
Jane was a very spiritual person and enjoyed different forms of spirituality. She enjoyed reading, writing, history, painting, photography, astrology, gardening, the outdoors and was an avid Morel Mushroom hunter. She loved her nieces and nephews and enjoyed doing things with them. She loved her pets and had many throughout her life. She rescued many animals that were in distress.
Survivors include 3 sisters, Lora Lee Johnson of Lawrence, KS, Patty Wiggins of Lawrence, KS, and Candy Norwood and husband Gregg of Overbrook, KS; nieces and nephews, Dan, Kelly, Robbie and Katie Johnson, Jeremiah and Josie Johnson, and Brandon and Sean Norwood; 5 great nephews and 6 great nieces.
Jane was preceded in death by her beloved sister Judith Ann Wiggins in 1952, her Father in 1997 and her Mother in 2001.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 21, 2014 at the funeral home, where the family will receive them from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.
The family suggests memorials to the Easter Seals Capper Foundation or the Lawrence Humane Society, sent in care of the funeral home.
