Modena Kauffman Weaver

Modena Kauffman Weaver died Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. She was born on October 5, 1914, in Hagerman, New Mexico, the daughter of Ralph Abraham and Aldia Reed Kauffman. She graduated from Topeka High School in Topeka, KS, in 1932 and from McPherson College in McPherson, KS, in 1936. She married Kenneth Franklin Weaver on June, 4, 1939, in Topeka, Kansas.
After two years in Lawrence, Mr. and Mrs. Weaver moved to Washington, DC, in 1941, then to Arlington, Virginia in 1944. In Arlington, Mrs. Weaver was a member of the Presbyterian Church of the Covenant and the Potomac Women’s Club, which she served as president. In 2000, Mr. and Mrs. Weaver returned to Lawrence, and moved to Lawrence Presbyterian Manor in 2003. In Lawrence, Mrs. Weaver was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She lived a long and full life, traveled all over the world, and her kindness touched everyone who knew her. Many people loved her and will miss her.
Survivors include a son, Robert Weaver and wife Betsy, of Lawrence; a daughter, Kathryn Wynn and husband Richard, of Haverford, PA; a sister, Marjorie Glenn, of Mason, OH; a brother, Ralph Kauffman, of Savannah, GA; four grandchildren, Ginny Weaver and Stephanie Weaver (Chad Kemper) of Lawrence, David Wynn (Jeannie) of Media, PA, and Mary Beth Wynn (Bret Jackson) of Riverside, IL; and seven great-grandchildren, Camilla and Nora Lynch of Lawrence, Alexander and Mia Wynn of Media, PA, and Reese, Ryan, and Tyler Wynn Jackson of Riverside.
Memorial Services for Mrs. Weaver are pending. The family suggests memorials to the Good Samaritan Fund at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor.
