Charles Gleed Wagstaff

Charles Gleed Wagstaff, 84, of Garland, Texas, died peacefully on Thursday, March 7, 2013, in a Richardson, Texas care facility. A public graveside service will be held on Saturday March 30, at 11 a.m., at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence, Kansas. A reception will follow at the Adams Alumni Center on the K.U. campus. Charles was born on April 4, 1928 in Lawrence, Kansas. He was the youngest child of Richard H. and Joanna G. Wagstaff, and grew up in Lawrence. He received a b.s. degree from the University of Kansas, where he was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. Charles married his childhood sweetheart, Nancy Van Bebber of Lawrence on September 23, 1950. He served in Korea in the U.S. Army. Charles and Nancy lived in Emporia for several years before settling in Topeka, where Charles work as a buyer for Pellitier’s Department Store. They later moved to the Dallas, Texas area, where he was a sales rep for several clothing lines.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife Nancy, who passed away on November 10, 2006. They are survived by their three sons, Chuck, Jr., of Garland, TX, Tim and his wife Tami, of Andover, KS, and Tom and his wife Cindy, of Castle Rock, CO; and their sister-in-law, Harriett Van Bebber, of Wichita. Also surviving are their four grandchildren, Suzie, Tyler, Taylor, and Reed Wagstaff, and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to VITAS Hospice, the Sigma Chi / Alpha Xi chapter scholarship fund, or a charity of your choice and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawence.
