Cathy Sue Carthen

Cathy Sue Grant Carthen was born January 6, 1957, in Junction City, KS, to Denievel Grant and Connie Oakry Grant. She grew up in Junction City where she graduated from Junction City High School before attending the University of Kansas in Lawrence, KS. In 1977 while attending the University of Kansas, Cathy became a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Incorporated.
On December 17, 1984, Cathy was wed to Carlos J. Carthen and to this union two beautiful children were born; Collyn Lashea Carthen-Teamer and Carlos James Carthen, II. Cathy was an affectionate, loving and devoted mother who supported her children unconditionally. A mother’s love is something that no one can explain; it is made of deep devotion and of sacrifice and pain. It is endless and unselfish and enduring come what may, for nothing can destroy or take that love away. It is patient and forgiving when all others are forsaking, and it never fails or falters even though the heart is breaking. It believes beyond believing when the world around condemns, it glows with all the beauty of the rarest brightest gems. It is far beyond defining, it defies all explanation and it still remains a secret like the mysteries of creation. A many splendored miracle man cannot understand and another wondrous evidence of God’s tender guiding hand.
Cathy’s dedication and loving spirit did not end with her children but was extended to other young people as well. Her passion for mentoring others was a true testament of her loving spirit and her willingness to support others who needed encouragement.
Cathy was a dedicated employee with KG&E (Wichita, KS) and One Oak Gas & Electric (Tulsa, OK) for 17 years. At the time of her passing she was employed with TBI in Atlanta, GA.
She was a member of the Church at Chapel Hill, under the leadership of Reverend David Divine.
On Sunday, March 3, 2013 at the age of 56, Cathy transitioned from this earthly life into the presence of Almighty God.
