Martha Rose Austin

Martha Rose Austin, 93, of Destin, FL died peacefully on Monday, February 25, 2013 at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center.
Born on February 22, 1920 in St. John, Kansas, she was the daughter of the late Harry Clark and Edith Mae Pettit Allphin. Her family moved to Lawrence, Kansas in 1922 where she attended school and was married to Gene Austin in 1940. Martha and Gene moved over the years throughout Missouri, Iowa and Kansas. They lived many years in Kinsley, Kansas where she was very active in the community and church and Gene was president of Kinsley Savings and Loan. Martha served as the church organist for over 20 years. In 1982, Martha and Gene retired to Destin, FL. She became very active in several bridge clubs in the area and was respected as an excellent player. Her personality and humor endeared her to all who knew her. She was a kind and caring person that never met a stranger.
Mrs. Austin was preceded in death by her husband, Max Eugene Austin, and her brother, Robert Clark Allphin. She is survived by her nephews, Robert C. Allphin, Jr. (Mary) of Atlanta, Ga. , Barry L. Allphin (Melissa) of Birmingham, AL. and her niece, Cynthia A. Lockwood (Jimmy) of Eufaula, Al.
Davis Watkins Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangement and Mrs. Austin will be interred at Lawrence Memorial Park in Lawrence, Kansas.
