Francis John Taylor, Jr. St. Augustine, FL
Francis John Taylor, Jr., age 96, died on January 16, 2013, in St. Augustine, Florida. Previously to moving to Florida he had been a longtime resident of Leawood and Lawrence, Kansas. Frank was born to Berta Johns Hopkins Taylor and Francis John Taylor, Sr., in Baltimore, Maryland. He graduated in 1938 with an Engineering degree from Johns Hopkins University, which was founded by his family. He enlisted in the US Navy in June 1941, retiring from the Navy Reserves as a Commander. After WWII, he was an engineer at Bendix Corporation and Black & Veatch Corporation. He was preceded in death by Eileen Abeln Taylor, wife of 65 years. He is survived by four daughters: Susan Johnston and Jean Volz both of St. Augustine; Mary Lou Taylor of Boise, ID; Nancy Flavin of Lawrence, KS; 6 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.
Services will be held at a later date, with military honors and internment at Leavenworth National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to VNA Hospice, 200 Maine, Lawrence, KS will be appreciated by the family.
