Clay Lyle Bowman

Clay Lyle Bowman, born on April 26, 1945, in Arkansas City, Kansas, the son of Clay Lyle and Elois Burns (Baker). He passed away Jan. 20, 2013 at KU Med Center, Kansas City, Kansas. Visitation will be held Friday, Jan. 25, 2013 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Funeral Services at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013 at Chapel Oaks Lawrence Funeral Chapel, 3821 W. 6th St., Lawrence, KS.
He received his Bachelor of Science and Political Science degrees from Southwestern College, Winfield, Kansas, and Masters of Science in Management from Baker University, Baldwin, Kansas.
He was Manager of Transportation and Special Projects for the Burlington Northern-Santa Fe Railway until his retirement in 2000, holding positions in Topeka, Chicago and Kansas City.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Lawrence, Kansas. An avid gun and car enthusiast, Clay was a member of the NRA (National Rifle Association) and NCOA (National Corvette Owners Association). He was also a member of the Heritage Foundation, CATO Institute and numerous activist groups. He was a dog-lover.
Clay was married to Cheryl Marie (Miller) on July 4, 1981, in Chicago, Illinois. She survives the home.
Other survivors include one son, Jeremy Clay and wife Jennifer and four grandchildren, Tristan Terfler, Grant, Drew and Vaughn Bowman, brother Edwin Bowman (wife Jann) of Sedan, Kansas and sister Teresa (Bowman) Thompson (husband Jim). He was preceded in death by step-son Paul Thomas Terfler.
The family suggests memorials in his name to the American Cancer Society.
