Elaine Frances Shuckahosee

Mass of Christian Burial for Elaine Frances Shuckahosee, 73, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 15000 Lakeshore Blvd., Cleveland, OH.
Mrs. Shuckahosee passed away Friday, Jan. 11, 2013.
Born May 23, 1939, in Cleveland, OH, the daughter of Anthony Yokules and Emily Lechowicz was a resident of Willoughby, OH since 2006. She attended St. Jerome School and graduated from Villa Angela Academy in 1957.
Elaine married Reginald J. Shuckahosee on Sept. 10, 1966, in Holton, Kan. They lived in Lawrence, Kan. from 1966 until 2002 when they returned to the Cleveland, OH area. Reginald preceded her in death on April 19, 2003.
Mrs. Shuckahosee earned her B.A. in American studies from the University of Kansas in May 1984 and was a member of the K.U. Non-Traditional Students Club. Elaine had a long volunteer history, including Kansas Volunteers on the Potawatomie Indian Reservation in Mayetta, Kan. in 1964, the St. John School reading program and LINK kitchen in Lawrence, Kan., and assisting seniors with computer literacy at the Mentor, OH Senior Center. Elaine will be remembered for her independent spirit, compassion for others and champion of causes.
Survivors include her son, Phillip Shuckahosee of Lawrence, Kan.; daughters, Summer Shuckahosee of Austin, Texas, Maria Shuckahosee of San Francisco, Calif. and Angela Shuckahosee of Cleveland, OH; sister, Rosemary Yokules Novitsky of Novelty, OH; and brother, Anthony “Tim” Yokules of Newbury, OH.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Gerald York of Kirtland, OH.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Monreal Funeral Home, 35400 Curtis Blvd., Eastlake.
Burial will be in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, OH at a later date.
