Frances Jean Dunfield 1922 - 2013 McLouth, formerly of Kansas City, KS
Frances Jean Dunfield, 91, McLouth, formerly of Kansas City, KS., died Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at the F.W. Huston Senior Living Center in Winchester.
She was born February 10, 1922 at Ottawa, the daughter of Perry and Jean Hubble Petersen. She had lived in McLouth since 1980, moving from Kansas City, KS., where she had lived many years. She was a 1939 graduate of Roosevelt High School in Emporia. She earned a B.S. degree in Mathematics and a teaching degree from Emporia State Teacher’s college in 1943. Mrs. Dunfield was a homemaker and had taught Mathematics at Lebo High School in the spring of 1944. She served as secretary for the Santa Fe railroad in Emporia and served as secretary to the dean of Nursing at the University of Colorado at Boulder. She was a private pilot and was a member of the Amelia Earhart Women’s 99 flying organization, she participated in the Powder Puff Derby, flying from Palm Springs, CA., to Tampa, FL., in 1977. She was a member of the McLouth United Methodist Church and the Order of Eastern Star in Emporia. She was married to Gerald Clinton Dunfield on May 30, 1943 at Emporia, he survives at home. Other survivors include two sons, Chris Warren Dunfield and his wife, Dianne, Corvalis, OR., David Mark Dunfield and his wife, Patricia, Lawrence and three grandsons.
Cremation is planned. A Memorial Celebration of Life will be at 3:00 PM, Saturday, March 2, 2013 at the McLouth United Methodist Church. Visitation with the family will be from 2:00 to 3:00 PM, prior to Services at the Church. Inurnment will be at a later date at Lincoln Cemetery, Lebo, KS.
