Phyllis Irene Houk 1926 - 2013 Oskaloosa
Phyllis Irene Houk, 86, Oskaloosa, died Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at Pioneer Ridge care facility in Lawrence. She was born June 3, 1926 at Topeka the daughter of George Hershel and Mabel Laverne Dunbar Forrester. She was a 1944 graduate of Lawrence High School. Mrs. Houk was a homemaker and stay at home mother. She was a member of Oskaloosa United Methodist Church. She served as a 4-H leader for the Busy Beavers and Jolly Juniors 4-H clubs in Jefferson County. She also served as the Women’s Chairman for Jefferson County and Douglas County Farm Bureaus for a number of years. She was married to Clifford Walter Houk on June 5, 1944 at Stull, he preceded her in death on September 18, 2003. Mrs. Houk is survived by one son, John (Dana) Houk, Oskaloosa, one daughter, Mary (Marvin) Smith, Topeka, two sisters, Barbara Smith, Cripple Creek, CO., Peggy Sanford, Lawrence, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Allen J. Houk and George Steven Houk.
Funeral Services will be at 10:00 AM, Tuesday at the Oskaloosa United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the Stull Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Monday at the Barnett Family Funeral Home (1220 Walnut - U.S. Highway 59) Oskaloosa.
