Rocio Munoz Smith

Rocio Munoz Smith, 51, died in her sleep on January 26 in the home of her parents, Robert and Celia Smith. She was born on the eighth of November, 1961, in Albuquerque, NM. The family lived in Cuba, NM, Torremolinos, Spain, and Bloomington, IN before finally settling in Lawrence in 1967.
Here she attended Broken Arrow and South Junior High, then went on to Scattergood School in West Branch, IA. Until the last years of her life she was a nomad, living in Lincoln, NE, again in Torremolinos (where she became fluent in Spanish), in McCall, ID (where she adopted her beloved dog Chuey, a chow chow that lived with her for 14 years, dying only last year), and in Ottawa, Coffeeville and Kansas City, KS. Her last few years were spent in Lawrence.
Rocio had a big heart, and was easily moved to laughter or tears. She loved strongly, and in turn was greatly loved.
She is survived by her parents, Robert and Celia Smith, her son Jeremy Smith of Boise, ID, her sister Celeste Smith, of Lawrence, and her brother Roderick, of Pittsburgh, PA.
A memorial service for her will take place at the Lawrence Unitarian Fellowship, 1263 North 1100 Road, at two o’clock Tuesday, February 12.
Memorials in her name are suggested to the Lawrence Humane Society.
