Howard Wayne Edmiston

Howard Wayne Edmiston, 70, Topeka, passed away on Wednesday, December 5, 2012, at Rolling Hills Health Center in Topeka, surrounded by family members and dear childhood friends. Services will be on February 10, 2013, at 2:00 PM at the United Presbyterian Church in Americus, KS.
He was born on January 24, 1942, in Americus, to Frank and Mable Edmiston. He was an avid basketball player growing up and played point guard on the Americus High School team that was runner up in the Kansas Class B State Basketball Championship in 1960. Howard lived in Lawrence for much of his adult life where he worked as a real estate broker and was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He later moved to Caldwell, where he made many friends whom he dearly treasured as well as the entire community.
Farm life was something that Howard grew up on and embraced, with a great deal of pride, his entire life. He enjoyed photography, listening to live country, western and bluegrass music, watching sports, and had a love of the cowboy heritage. Not many things, to him, were more beautiful than a wheat field right before harvest, old John Deere Tractors, and the Flint Hills in the spring.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mable Edmiston; his sister, Anna Mae Edmiston, his brothers Donald Edmiston and Gene Edmiston. Howard is survived by siblings, Mary Jane and Richard Edmiston, both of Auburn, and Robert Edmiston of Americus; his daughter, Diana Edmiston, Wichita; his sons, Robert, Holyrood, Frank, Reno, Nevada and John Edmiston, Monroe, Washington; and his four grandchildren Sean, Alyssa, Lucas and Jacob Edmiston, all of Topeka.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be sent to the Caldwell Senior Center of Caldwell, Kansas, in care of Davidson Funeral Home, 1035 N. Kansas Ave, Topeka, Kansas 66608. Howard has graciously donated his body to the University of Kansas.
