Luke A. Pell

Luke A. Pell, age 95, of Desoto, Kansas, passed away on December 19, 2013. Luke was born July 21, 1918 in Glasgow, West Virginia. He was the seventh of eleven children born to James and Mary Pell and was the last surviving member of his family. In August, 1941, he married Elizabeth (Betty) Perkins in Washington, DC. He served in the Army Aircorp as a radio repairman during World War II and was assigned to duty in the Pacific theater. In 1948 Luke, Betty and their two older children moved from Ohio to DeSoto, Kansas. Luke worked as a journeyman electrician and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) until his retirement at age 60. He was a 32degree Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite. Luke is survived by his five children: Anne Pell Moscrip (Durham, NC), Harriet Pell (Denver, CO), Peggy Pell (Mission, KS), John Pell (Fredericksburg, VA), and Cathy Pell Lapp (Phelps, WI), 12 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. Luke was preceded in death by his son Richard (1972), his granddaughter Kari Kennaly (1978), his wife Betty (2003) and his grandson Philip Pell (2011).
A remembrance celebration will be held at the VFW in DeSoto at 3:00 PM, Saturday, January 18, 2014.
