Roberta C. L. Ireland 1919 - 2012
On Tuesday, September 11, 2012, Roberta C. L. Ireland, a beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and dear friend departed this world surrounded by family who loved her at the age of ninety- two years, nine months and twenty-five days. Although she will be missed we have comfort in the truth, that through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ we will be together again someday.
Daughter of Luke A. Feathergill Sales and Pauline Roenna (Workman) Sales, Roberta was born on November 17, 1919 in Ozawkie, Kansas. She was raised in Topeka during the Depression era and later moved with her family to Lawrence. Roberta enjoyed the simple things of life, playing with her seven brothers and sisters, going to baseball games and seeing movies. It was there that she meet the love of her life, James “Dick” Ireland and the couple was wed on June 11, 1938. To this union the couple was blessed with a son and a daughter. During World War II, Roberta faithfully waited for Dick to return, and following his discharge from the United States Army, Dick and Roberta settled in Lawrence, Kansas where they built a future for their family.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of seventy-two years Dick Ireland; her brothers Leonard Sales, Warren Sales, James Sales and Luke Sales; her sisters Edna Grange and Dorothy Meadows; and her brother-in-law Charles Roberts.
Roberta is survived by her son Terry Lee Ireland and wife Helen of Seymour, Missouri; her daughter Sharon Young and husband Denzil of Seymour, Missouri; her grandchildren David Lee Ireland of Seymour, Missouri, Scott Patrick Ireland and wife Karie of Pleasant Hope, Missouri, James A. Young and wife Ranesa and Michael A. Young and wife Christy, both of Seymour, Missouri; her great- grandchildren Ashly, Austin, Connor, Trevor, Joshua, Matthew, James, Meghan, Rylan, Brandon, and David Brunner; her sister Peggy Roberts of Tucson, Arizona, and Freeman Earl Sales, whom she loved as a son, of Omaha, Nebraska; and a host of other dear family and friends.
Roberta Ireland was a Godly woman, who loved her family, her church and her community. She leaves behind a wonderful legacy for her family and friends to carry on. We celebrate her life and accomplishments and will treasure the moments she created for each of us.
Services for Roberta Ireland will be held Saturday, September 15, 2012 at the Diggins Apostolic Church in Diggins, Missouri at 4:00 p.m. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. till time of service, Saturday evening. Burial will be Monday, September 17, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in the Springfield Missouri Veteran’s Cemetery.
