Kahlyn Elizabeth Heine 1989 - 2012 Topeka
A Celebration of Life for Kahlyn Elizabeth Heine, 22, Topeka, will be at 10 am Thursday at Lawrence Free Methodist Church, with Pastor Bob Leiste officiating. Burial will follow at Clinton Cemetery, Clinton. Kahlyn died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012, in Topeka.
She was born Nov. 24, 1989, in Lawrence, the daughter of Rodney C. and Lanaea L. Blick Heine. She graduated from Lawrence High School in 2008, where she was involved in orchestra and choir. She later graduated Magna Cum Laude from Washburn University in 2012 with a degree in elementary education, where she was also inducted into Mortar Board.
Kahlyn was a special education teacher at Shawnee Heights Elementary School. She previously had provided in-home special education instruction and care. She was a member of KNEA, Redeemer Lutheran Church, where she was active in VBS and youth group, and the Future Alumni Association at Washburn. She had been active in 4-H, earning many awards including the Key, I Dare You, and Spirit awards. She enjoyed time spent with family, friends, and kids.
Survivors include her parents, rural Lawrence, and a sister, Kirstyn, of the home; her grandparents Maurus N. Blick, Topeka, and Otis L. and Reta L. Heine, Lawrence; great aunt and uncle Ruby and Dwayne Peaslee, Perry; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by a grandmother, Diedre R. Blick.
Friends may call from noon to 8 pm Wednesday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, where the family will receive them from 6-8 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kahlyn Heine Memorial Scholarship Fund, or Redeemer Lutheran Church, in care of the funeral home, 601 Indiana St., Lawrence, KS, 66044.
