Patricia L. Collins 1926 - 2012 Foster City, California
PATRICIA L. "PATTI" COLLINS, Foster City, California, and formerly of Emporia, Kansas, passed away Thursday, October 18, 2012 at Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara Medical Center, Santa Clara, California, at the age of 86.
Patricia James was born in Normal, Illinois on February 18, 1926, the daughter of H. Francis and Judith (Pregaldin) James. She married William Michael Collins at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Emporia, Kansas on June 6, 1948. He survives.
Other family members include her two sons, William James "Bill" (wife, Annette) of Lawrence, Kansas, and Kevin Michael (wife, Florence) of Zurich, Switzerland, and a daughter, Jean (husband, Richard) Standard, Petaluma, California. There are two brothers Anton and Hue James (both deceased) and three sisters, Joann Johnson, of Sun City, Arizona, Barbara Hayden of Lakewood California, and Rosemary Goltz (deceased) as well as ten grandchildren, Arthur, Alice, Juliette, Jenna, Katie, and Sarah Collins, and Grady, Justin, Eli, and Annie Standard, and one great-grandson, Sam Standard.
She was a graduate of Kansas State Teachers College, Emporia, having received her Bachelor and Masters Degree in Art Education. While attending KSTC she was a member of the Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority. Mrs. Collins taught art at the Barstow School, Kansas City, Missouri, Lowther Junior High School, Emporia, Kansas, and Hillsdale High School, San Mateo, California, where she also taught Special Education. She retired from teaching in 1993. Mrs. Collins, and her husband Bill, also owned Collins Volkswagen in Emporia until selling the dealership in 1973. She was recognized in the Emporia Gazette as the first "Gazette Woman of the Week". While living in Emporia she had been a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
A Latin Tridentine Mass for the Dead will be held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Emporia, Kansas at 2:00 PM on, Friday, October 26, The Mass will be celebrated by Rev. John Shannon, F.S.S.P. of the Latin Mass Community of Saint John-Mary Vianney, Maple Hill, Kansas. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. The Rosary will be recited at 1:00 that afternoon at the church, led by Father Richard Warsnak, of the church.
A memorial has been established with the Republican National Coalition for Life, contributions sent in care of the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, PO Box #175, Emporia, Kansas 66801.
