Mary Geraldine “Jerry” Baumgardner Faubion 1925 - 2012

Mary Geraldine “Jerry” Baumgardner Faubion, age 87, died at her home on October 17, 2012. She was born on March 9, 1925 in Burlington, KS, to Lucille Rudrauff Baumgardner and Fred Baumgardner. She grew up in Burlington, graduating from Burlington High School in 1943. After graduation, she followed her parents to Wichita where she earned a degree in education. She taught kindergarten in Neodesha, KS for two years before marrying Dr. Bill Faubion in 1950 and moving to Manhattan where Bill practiced dentistry for 31 years. During her years in Manhattan, Jerry volunteered for years as a reading teacher at Head Start. She and Bill moved to Lawrence in 1992 to be closer to her grandchildren. Bill died in 1995 after a prolonged illness during which Jerry was his primary caregiver. In 1997, she reconnected with Jack Burn, an old high school friend. They shared 5 years before his death in 2003. Jerry then joined the household of her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren until her death.
She is survived by her children, Jon, and his wife Solveig Brant (Manhattan), Jane and her husband Steve Davidson (Lawrence) and grandchildren Will and Julia, and her life-long best friend, Jeanice Allen Pokorny, Houston.
Jerry’s kindness, warmth and compassion touched everyone who knew her. She loved her family, her friends, her pets and good causes. A voracious reader, Jerry consumed a book a day for many years. She was progressive, well- informed and highly opinionated on current events to the end.
Friends are invited to a remembrance of Jerry’s life Sunday, October 21 from 3:00-5:00 pm at her home, 4413 Stone Meadows Ct., Lawrence, KS. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the charity of your choice. Online condolences may be expressed at chapeloaksne.com.
